We are pleased to announce the launch of Tropical Carbon Farming Innovation Hub.

Carbon farming encompasses activities that sequester, avoid or destroy greenhouse gas emissions. This include activities associated with forest management, agriculture and soil, electricity and power systems, waste to energy, infrastructure and carbon capture and storage. Just as a farmer produces food or fibre products, carbon farmers produce outcomes that mitigate climate change, with those outcomes primarily measured in CO2e.

The field of study of ‘carbon farming research’ uses the carbon farming value chain as the functional organisational unit and seeks solutions to how the value of carbon farming activities and outputs can be enhanced. This includes not only the cost-effectiveness of offsetting as an emissions reduction option but also the promotion of the co-benefits that are associated with many forms of carbon farming.

The purpose of Tropical Carbon Farming Innovation Hub is to bring key stakeholders together to develop innovative approaches to carbon farming initiatives in the tropics. The Hub has a specific focus on (1) developing new and improved carbon offsetting methodologies and (2) capacity building through the carbon farming value chain.

The organisations currently involved include private companies, Governments, Universities and NGOs. The initiative is funded by a mix of grants, donations and voluntary contributions.
